In the next instalment of our 'Meet The Team' series, we introduce Rich Mallon, Head of Customer Success at Sport:80.

Rich, tell us a bit about yourself!

"I joined Sport:80 back in 2014 after completing my Masters in Sport Business Management at Sheffield Hallam University. I had studied on the same course as our COO, Jonny, and had also previously worked with our CEO, Gary, so when an opportunity at Sport:80 arose they picked up the phone to see if I was interested.

"My first role with Sport:80 was as ‘Head of Research’, which was a part-time position, while also acting as an Administrator for the newly formed Boccia International Sports Federation (now World Boccia).

"In March 2018, I went on to become Head of Support, Training & Integrations, and then in December of that year started my role as Head of Customer Success."

What are some of your main duties at Sport:80?

"In my role I manage our brilliant Customer Success Team Members, and ensure they are on track with client projects.

"In addition, I look after certain designated clients’ development projects to ensure they’re using the Platform to its full potential, I coordinate the development of training material for the Platform’s Knowledge Base and Learning Centre, and I manage the feedback provided by our partners in the Client Portal."

Tell us a bit about your interests!

"I’m a stereotypical sports fan - I’ll watch anything! I also think you can’t beat being in a stadium watching the drama unfold in real life, so would much rather be sat in the drizzle at Trent Bridge watching the cricket than sat at home on the sofa in the warm!

"I’m also one of those people who loves to challenge myself (which is why I play golf!), but this year has been filled with triathlon and marathon training. That being said I enjoy trying new things, whether that’s pickleball or rock climbing!"

Who is your favourite sports team/athlete?

"I’ve been a Newcastle United supporter since I was a young lad… Lots of people ask why and quite honestly, I sometimes wonder too."

What's your favourite sporting memory?

"Ryder Cup. 2018. Sunday Singles. 16th Green. Scenes. Second only to the coach journey back into Paris for the evening celebrations!"

Favourite pasta shape?

"Trofie (with a creamy mushroom and chicken sauce and lashings of parmesan)."

Desert island! One film, book, and album for the rest of your life. What are they?

"I don’t read much and not a big music fan so I’m just going to pick 3 films: The Shawshank Redemption, Anchorman, and Elf – so I have something to watch at Christmas!"

Favourite fictional character?

"Tough one… David Brent, Michael Scott, Ron Burgundy, Derrick Trotter… too many to mention but I am sure you get the idea! If I had to pick one, it would be David Brent."

The thing that annoys you most?

"Mess."

What's something you don't like, that everybody else does?

"Music! I have zero interest and quite frankly, prefer it when the office speaker doesn’t get turned on!"

What's your spirit animal?

"Tiger.."

If you could go back to any moment in time, when would it be?

"Wembley, 1966. It’s been a promising few years under Southgate but I’m worried that it’s going to be ANOTHER generation of nearly men. It’s nice that the Lionesses have given us something to cheer about over the last few tournaments but there's still that lingering fear that the men's team may fall short once again when it truly matters."
